The gastrointestinal tract is a complex microbiome environment that significantly influences human health through the production of various microbial metabolites. These small molecule byproducts are important in regulating important body functions such as metabolism and immune responses, and influence overall health. Current research focuses on the gut microbiome as a fundamental aspect of health and proposes a gut health index as a universal indicator based on microbial diversity. Despite advances, many questions remain regarding how these metabolites directly influence physiological and pathological processes.
This research topic aims to explore how microbial metabolites influence host health, particularly their direct role in the development and progression of gastrointestinal and metabolic conditions. The aim is to comprehensively characterize microbial metabolites, decipher their biochemical pathways and interactions with host metabolic byproducts, and explore their therapeutic potential. This integrated approach aims to manage gastrointestinal and metabolic health through the regulation of these metabolites. We are seeking contributions on the following specific themes:
• Utilize state-of-the-art techniques such as metagenomics and mass spectrometry to accurately identify metabolites.
• Investigate how these metabolites affect cellular functions such as signal transduction pathways and gene regulation.
• Analyze differences in metabolite levels between healthy individuals and people with certain digestive or metabolic disorders
• Evaluation of the effects of metabolites on diseases such as IBD, IBS, and colorectal cancer.
• Exploring the relationship between metabolites and diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and MASLD.
• Innovate new treatments targeting diet and the microbiome.
Through this focused exploration, we welcome contributions that can be integrated into precision medicine tailored to individual gut microbiome profiles and revolutionize the understanding and treatment of complex diseases.
