Albright College and the Albright Athletic Department announced that stunting is the newest varsity sport to be offered at Albright. The Lions plan to begin stunting competitions in 2025-26, with stunting being a spring sport.

Stantitt’s addition brings Albright’s intercollegiate athletics presence to 23. The search for the program’s first head coach will open immediately. Interested parties can apply here.

“We are pleased to announce the addition of stunting as a varsity sport at Albright,” said Director of Athletics Rick Ferry. “Stunting is growing rapidly nationally and we are pleased to add the sport to Albright’s intercollegiate sports. We look forward to participating in stunt competitions as well as strengthening our cheer and dance teams.”

Stunting is a new women’s sport that incorporates skills derived from cheerleading. It is an exciting head-to-head competition between two teams performing skill-based routines in a variety of categories, including partner stunts, jumps and tumbling, pyramids, tosses and team routines.

The emerging sports program for women, overseen by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics, was established in 1994 based on recommendations from the NCAA Gender Equity Task Force. Since then, five sports have become championship sports (beach volleyball, rowing, ice hockey, water polo and bowling), and women’s wrestling is set to become the sixth sport pending affiliation approval in the NCAA Conference in 2025. In 2022-23, emerging sports accounted for more than 4,200 participation opportunities for student-athletes, according to NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Data.
