The Franklin Tech golf team is hoping to reach the state tournament for the third consecutive year, and so far this season the Eagles have proven the team is more than capable of achieving that goal.
Franklin Tech beat Athol 156-170 on a rainy day at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday, led by Gabe Mota’s 35 points. The Eagles improved to 8-1 on the season with the win.
Will Belvalle had 39, Jack Day had 40 and Grady Deary had 42 to seal the win for Tech. Ethan Hoyer had 35, while Dominic St. Andre (42), Owen Stoddard (46) and Brandon Adams (47) rounded out the scoring for the Bears.
Women’s Soccer
GREENFIELD 4, FRANKLIN TECH 0 — Erdelina Secuyanin scored twice in the first half and twice more in the second to lead the Wave to a win over the Eagles on Wednesday at Greenfield.
Taylor Bergeron and Sarah McCloud had assists and Annie Kobilianski made eight saves for Greenfield. Kylie Gamache stopped 14 shots for Franklin Tech.
Hopkins 7, Maher 0 — Jaya McBroom made 11 saves for the Senators against the Golden Hawks on Wednesday in Hadley.
Helen Visas scored two goals for Hopkins.
Women’s Volleyball
Turners 3, Franklin Tech 2 — The Thunder forced a fifth set for the fourth time this season before coming back to win 13-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-14, 25-11 against the host Eagles on Wednesday.
Maddi Liimatainen had 17 kills and 12 aces to go along with three digs, Maddie Dietz had 24 assists and six aces and Tatiana Carr-Williams had six kills, two blocks and one dig for Turners.
Emmy Nash had one kill, one assist and one block, Emma Petersen had two aces, five kills and eight digs, Sarah Beckwith had eight aces, three kills and nine digs and Franklin Tech’s Madison Pettengill had two aces, six kills, six digs and five blocks.
Mahar 3, Pioneer 0 — Madeline Burgess’ five aces, two digs and nine assists led the Senators to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-22 victory over the Panthers on Wednesday at Orange.
Hayden Como had three aces, five kills and two blocks, Mia Santana had two aces and four kills and Mackenzie Scribner and Turin Gurganus each had a kill and a dig for Mahar.
Greta Lewis had three aces, six digs, two blocks and two kills, Jacobia Tyminski had one ace, seven digs, two kills and two blocks and Chiara Grzykowski finished with five digs, one block and one kill for the Pioneers.
Field Hockey
Smith Academy 2, Mahar 1 — Alexa Jagodzinski scored the game-winning goal with 1 minute, 20 seconds left to give the Falcons a win over the Senators on Wednesday in Hatfield.
Westfield 3, Mohawk Trail 0 — Shay Hurley scored two goals in the Bombers’ win over the Warriors on Wednesday.
Isabel Finn made nine saves for Mohawk Trail.
Turners 3, Northampton 2 — Ella LaRouche scored two goals and Ledwin Villafana had a goal and an assist for the Thunder in their win over the Blue Devils on Wednesday.
LaRouche’s second goal came in the fourth quarter and sealed the game.
Men’s Soccer
Athol 6, Putnam 2 — Brent Boudreau and Cooper Smith each scored two goals and the Bears earned their first win of the season with a win over Putnam on Wednesday in Athol.
Karim Thompson and Seidow also scored goals, with assists from Thompson, Landon Collins, Seidow and Jack Waslaske. Drake Wing stopped three shots for Athol.
Four Rivers 3, Putney 2 — Cooper Whitney scored two goals in Wednesday’s win for the Otters.
Elliott Sanborn contributed to the win.
