Buying technology for kids can be difficult. For example, my 6-year-old son, who is obsessed with Star Wars, not only has a working lightsaber, but also an upgraded tablet that allows him to reach his full potential for important purposes like SpongeBob SquarePants: Patty Pursuit. I also want it. This is a tall order, because aside from figuring out how to make a fully functional Jedi weapon, purchasing a tablet forces you to face some difficult questions. Would a first grader of elementary school be able to hold this in his hands? Will it last more than a few years? And does it come with parental controls?
With so many options and products to choose from, the entire endeavor can be a fast-paced and overwhelming experience. That’s why I often consult with other parents on the PCMag staff to make sure I’m giving my kids the right gear. PCMag is a group that collaborates to test hundreds of products, including those specifically aimed at younger users.
This article attempts to condense some of that knowledge into one buying guide. But this list includes more than just tablets and fictional Jedi weapons, it includes all sorts of products that the young people in your household might want. Our analysts focused on the best computers, mobile devices, software, services, educational toys, and more for young users.
I recommend this place.
