Dan Slentz, director of engineering and technology for 19 News, warns that many antennas for sale make numerous false claims.
“Any antenna that says ‘4K’ is just throwing around a catchword,” Slentz said. “Whether it’s standard definition, HD, 4K or even 8K, the antenna doesn’t care what that ‘RF’ (radio frequency) is transmitting.”
Stay away from antennas that claim to receive cable or streaming platforms. These options are never broadcast over the air.
Some antennas can be placed very close to your TV, but you may not get the best results.
“For TV (like FM), height and being outdoors is the best scenario for reception. The higher you place your antenna, the better off you are.” Slentz he said.
“In many cases, a tower next to a house or chimney is the most likely location. Roof mounts can work, but many people don’t want to attach something like that to their roof. A suitable alternative is Installing the antenna in the attic of a building with two or more floors.
