Charting Careers, an Annapolis-based nonprofit focused on supporting youth and families, has been awarded a five-year Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). did. This grant will support the Charting Careers Community Youth Coalition in its efforts to prevent youth drug use.
1 in 6 communities in Maryland will receive grant funding
Charting Careers is one of only six organizations in Maryland selected for this grant cycle. With the DFC grant, the organization will work with a coalition of community partners to reduce the availability and access of substances such as alcohol, marijuana and other drugs for local youth . The coalition will focus on advocating for policy changes and implementing prevention strategies across the region.
Mobilize local partners for long-term solutions
The DFC program is built on the understanding that local problems require local solutions. The coalition includes representatives from a variety of community sectors, including parents, youth, teachers, law enforcement, medical professionals, religious organizations, and business leaders. By working together across these groups, this initiative aims to address drug use holistically.
DFC-funded coalitions such as Charting Careers engage communities in evidence-based prevention strategies while also working to highlight that the majority of young people do not use drugs.

ONDCP Director Dr. Gupta highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting youth through initiatives like the DFC programme. “This new funding will support the President’s commitment to defeating the overdose epidemic by strengthening evidence-based prevention and providing community coalitions with the tools and resources they need to reduce youth drug use at the local level. in support of our call for a unity agenda,” Mr. Gupta said.
