Fred Fitness: First AI-powered gym concept launches in Santa Monica

The first gym to offer personalized workouts powered entirely by AI, Fred Fitness is set to transform the U.S. fitness market when it debuts in Santa Monica in January 2025. Backed by European fitness giant Clever Fit and powered by state-of-the-art EGYM technology, Fred Fitness offers customized training plans and real-time guidance, giving you the experience of a personal trainer at a fraction of the cost.

Fred Fitness was conceptualized by Alfred Enzensberger, founder of Clever Fit, with support from EGYM CEO Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer. The concept leverages EGYM’s advanced AI technology and recently secured $200 million in growth funding and achieved a valuation of over $1 billion.

“Most gyms provide equipment; we provide a solution,” Enzensberger explains. “Imagine a personal trainer who not only understands your goals, but also continuously adapts to your progress. Human trainers cannot provide this level of precision and personalization, but our technology… We aim to make these innovations affordable and accessible to everyone as the fitness industry moves towards premium services focused on longevity.”

AI-driven personalization for optimal results

At the heart of Fred Fitness is a unique AI system that continuously adapts to each member’s progress. Smart equipment provides real-time feedback and dynamically adjusts your training to ensure optimal form and increase both safety and effectiveness.

“When I introduced Alfred to our Genius technology, he envisioned an entire health club around it,” says Philippe Rocheschlanderer, CEO of EGYM. “The launch of Fred Fitness is the culmination of our shared commitment to innovation in the industry.”

Unlike traditional gyms, Fred Fitness combines expert-level, AI-driven training with on-site trainers for added support. This approach democratizes fitness expertise and makes professional-level workouts accessible to everyone, regardless of schedule or budget.

“At Fred Fitness, every workout is optimized for you,” Enzensberger adds. “This technology eliminates the guesswork and provides each individual with the perfect fitness experience.”

Inclusive and welcoming, designed for everyone

Fred Fitness, located at 1344 4th St. in Santa Monica, blends cardio, strength and functional training through the integration of Matrix Cardio Equipment, EGYM Genius and Functional Equipment. All elements connect seamlessly through the Fred Fitness app to create a consistent workout experience. Designed with Scandinavian minimalism, the space is modern, inviting and provides a comfortable environment for all fitness levels.
