“For GSK, this is the largest manufacturing investment we have ever made in the United States,” said GSK President Maya Martinez-Davis.
This investment will allow the company to expand both its manufacturing and research and development capabilities.
“We know that investing in prevention is the best investment we can make. We know the impact and importance of prevention,” Martinez-Davis said.
The state is supporting the project with $21 million in grants and incentives.
“This is one of the largest life science transactions in Pennsylvania history. And hear me out about this: This is the largest federally supported economic development project in Lancaster County history,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.
This project will have far-reaching implications.
“From the manufacturing industries here in the Commonwealth that supply the vials and some of the equipment that companies like GSK use, to the energy producers that produce the electricity needed to keep vaccines cold and equipment running; And all the way to the farmers. They’re the ones producing the eggs that are often needed for vaccines,” Shapiro said.
One in four Americans has used a vaccine made in Marietta, according to GSK.
Expansion work is expected to begin next week and be completed in 2028.
