If you are a veteran looking to get a flu shot this season, the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center will be offering drive-thru flu vaccinations this weekend.
Drive-thru clinics will be open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at the main campus in Altoona, as well as outpatient clinic locations in Johnstown, Huntingdon and DuBois.
The DuBois Clinic will be open until 1 p.m.
For veterans who can’t make it to a drive-thru clinic this weekend, the VA Medical Center is offering walk-in clinics at its main facility Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to noon, or Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m., through the end of November.
“It’s important to get the flu vaccination, because one of the most important reasons is that you’re protecting yourself, but you’re also protecting your family members who may not be as immune to the virus as you are,” said Jason Jones, director of nursing for outpatient care at James E. Van Zandt Medical Center.
Vaccination clinics are free for veterans and you do not need to be a current member of the VA, but you must be a veteran to receive the vaccine.
If veterans would like to participate, staff will be available to answer questions and help begin the registration process.
You can also check availability at your local VA outpatient clinic.
