Real Madrid breaks a record that stood for 43 years

Real Madrid reached a major milestone last night with a 4-1 win over Espanyol, extending their unbeaten run in La Liga to 38 games.

This incredible run equals the previous record of 38 consecutive games unbeaten, set in the 1979-1980 season, and highlights the team’s dominance in the Spanish top flight.

The last time Real Madrid tasted defeat in La Liga was almost a year ago in September, when they lost 3-1 to Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby. Since that defeat, they have embarked on an incredible unbeaten run and are on the cusp of a truly special moment.

After 38 games unbeaten, they are now one game away from completing a perfect unbeaten season in La Liga.

Since then, they have gone unbeaten in La Liga, showing a level of consistency and tenacity that no other team can match.

Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 50 games combined across La Liga and the Champions League, and since losing to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey, they have gone an astonishing 33 games unbeaten.

Additionally, Real Madrid extended their unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League to 14 games following their victory over Stuttgart earlier this week.

The streak is now closing in on a club record – the last time they went that long without defeat in the Champions League was in 2016, when they went 15 games without defeat, but that streak was ended in the semi-finals against Atletico Madrid.

That Real Madrid have been able to maintain such good results across multiple competitions is testament to the squad’s strength and adaptability, and as they aim to break new records, they continue to prove why they are one of the most formidable teams in European football.
