Telemundo is revamping the management team at its sports division, Telemundo Deportes.

The NBCUniversal-owned Spanish-language media company announced that Joaquin Duro will become executive vice president of the division, reporting to Telemundo Enterprises Chairman Luis Fernandez.

Dulos succeeds Eli Velazquez, who will leave the company at the end of this month.

In his new role, Duro will oversee all programming for Telemundo Deportes, including acquisitions and live event productions. Telemundo’s sports rights include the FIFA World Cup, the Olympics, the NFL and world soccer.

“Joaquin has been a pioneer in the growth and development of digital sports content in Hispanic media for more than 20 years,” Fernandez said in a statement. “He is the right person to lead our sports division at a time when sports content is key to our future multi-platform growth. Joaquin’s extensive expertise and leadership will strengthen our sports business for the future as Hispanic audiences evolve their media consumption habits across linear and streaming.”

Duro most recently served as senior VP of AVOD streaming and digital at Telemundo Enterprises and previously worked at Univision.

“I am thrilled to have the honor of leading the incredible team of professionals at Telemundo Deportes,” added Duro. “They have consistently delivered world-class sports content to the Latino audience for many years. I look forward to working with the team to build on this great legacy and prepare for the future as we continue to produce and broadcast the world’s biggest sporting events to millions of fans across linear and streaming channels.”
