Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs apologized for confronting a television reporter immediately after Sunday’s game. He even carried a peace offering.
During the game, WFAA’s Mike Leslie asked X what Diggs was doing while reposting a video of Diggs seemingly not doing his best on a catch-and-run by 49ers tight end George Kittle Ta. Diggs came out of the locker room and pursued Leslie before it was released to the media, ending the exchange with a “Dees Nuts” joke.
On Wednesday, Diggs gave Leslie two cans of Dee’s Nuts, making everyone laugh.
“Trevon Diggs and I cleared the air,” Leslie told X. “He apologized for the incident in the hallway, and I apologized for misreading the play. What I interpreted as jogging was actually him potentially slow-playing.” he explained,” Cutback from George Kittle. We buried several canisters of Dee’s nuts in the hatchet, which he handed me after his interview with the press. ”
Diggs defended his effort on the play in question, noting that after a 43-yard gain on No. 4 Dallas, he pushed Kittle out of bounds to prevent the tight end from scoring. The 49ers scored on the next play anyway.
“I felt like I was the last line of defense,” Diggs said, via Skylar Dixon of the Associated Press. “My players were on the field and I was behind the safety at the time, so yeah, I was the last line of defense and I felt like I was blocking him from scoring. I took it from the highest angle. Yeah, I didn’t think my efforts were the problem.
He also defended his social media post immediately after the game.
“It’s 2024. Social media, this is it. This is what it is about. Everyone is on social media. That’s just the way it is. It’s just a part of our lives now.” Diggs said. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me going online after a game or someone going online after a game and checking out whatever they want to check out. Maybe they want to get away from the game and just scroll. No.”
However, Diggs publicly apologized, saying he was wrong to take his frustration out on Leslie.
“I shouldn’t have reacted the way I reacted, and I apologize for that,” Diggs said. “Most of (the criticism) caught me at the right time.”
