Walz defended Biden in an interview this morning after the president came under fire for his response to a comedian who made racist and offensive comments about the Puerto Rican community at Trump’s Sunday rally.

“President Biden has been very clear that he’s talking about the rhetoric that we heard at that rally, and that doesn’t take away from that,” Walz said in an interview on “CBS Morning.”

“People are hungry to come together. They’re hungry to find a unified message. They’re hungry for us to find solutions, whether it’s about prices or reproductive health, and they want to know the solutions.” ” he said.

In response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s remarks at President Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday, Biden defended the Puerto Rican community in a video call focused on Latino voters and asked if he was a Trump supporter. He seemed to be criticizing one or the other of Hinchcliffe.

“They are a good, decent, honorable people,” Biden said of Puerto Ricans. “The only trash floating around out there is his supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and un-American. It’s totally against everything we’ve done. It is contrary to.”

White House press secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement that Biden “calls the hateful comments he made at the Madison Square Garden rally as garbage.”

Stephanie Cutter, senior messaging adviser for the Harris-Waltz campaign, suggested in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” this morning that people should focus their anger on President Trump.

“Please ignore the false and abusive rhetoric from Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and his campaign. Despite President Biden’s claims that he disrespects Trump supporters, the president We call it a trash can,” she said.
