FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – With the fall flu season upon us, the Fresno County Public Health Department is offering free flu vaccinations to the public.
The Department of Health, in collaboration with University of California, San Francisco, Fresno and St. Agnes Medical Center, will host free vaccination clinics throughout the county during the 2024-2025 flu season (Nov. 15-March 31), the department said in a statement.
Health experts encourage residents to attend these free clinics because the vaccine is the best defense against the disease and serious complications such as pneumonia and death. The 2024-2025 flu vaccine is designed to protect against the three most common viruses this season.
Officials say the first walk-up vaccination clinic will be held Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Dunlap Elementary School, located at 39667 Dunlap Road.
According to the Ministry of Health, protection begins about two weeks after vaccination and lasts for several months to a year, and children under the age of eight who have received one or fewer doses of the flu vaccine in their lifetime should receive two doses of the flu vaccine this season, four weeks apart.
He said medical experts recommend everyone over the age of six months get vaccinated, regardless of age or health.
